Winter is magnificent time to visit Belgrade. If you came to Belgrade in late November, you will have the chance to experience kosava! Kosava is a cold and dry southeastern wind very characteristic for Serbia and specially Belgrade. It will definitely make you feel like it is -10⁰C when it is around 5⁰C outside. You must ask yourself, why you should visit Belgrade on this weather? Well first of all, the air gets cleaned and all smoke and dust are gone, and the other and most important thing is that when kosava starts, Belgradians are starting to make one thing that will make you warm on that cold weather – kuvanarakija, or boiled domestic brandy.
Boiled domestic brandy is one thing that you must taste if you come to Belgrade in winter time. It is made of browned sugar and domestic brandy diluted with water. This drink is so sweet and tasty, that you will easy forget that there is a lot of alcohol inside… But it will get you so warm! And guess what: kosava never blows for only one day! It can blow for 3, 7 or 21 day! So get warm and enjoy!
Belgrade is very interesting in the winter time; there are so many concerts, festivals, parties and events that you will hardly notice that the winter came. If you came to Belgrade on the end of December, you have one more thing to feel lucky about- Belgradians love New year! We celebrate it on all possible ways from private parties; discotheque, pubs and bars, to the biggest event and biggest celebration- great concert in the centre of town, where you can dance, hear some great music or enjoy the fireworks.
Expect to be hugged and kissed by everyone – we like to share our emotions, but New Year is the time when we really lose it!
